Our story

About Us

Langit is a curator and boutique food distributor and accredited social enterprise, bringing heirloom rice and Bornean ingredients from Borneo’s highland farms to your table.

Some businesses are built to sell a product. Langit was built to keep a promise — a promise made in the highland valleys of Borneo, where the finest rice you have never heard of is grown by hands that have tended the same soil for generations. When we took the helm of Langit, we did not inherit a company so much as a responsibility: to carry that promise further than it had ever travelled before.

We are a curator and boutique food distributor of Malaysia's finest ingredients, and an accredited social enterprise. But if you strip away the labels, what we really do is close a distance — the distance between a smallholder farmer in Sabah or Sarawak and the table where their harvest finally belongs. Heirloom rice, aromatic Bornean spices, cold-pressed oils and specialty pantry goods: we bring them from the farm gate to your home, and we do it in a way that leaves dignity intact at every step of the journey.

A story we were entrusted to continue

Langit began with a question that refused to go away: what would it take for the people who grow our food to truly thrive? Not merely survive one more season, but build a livelihood worth passing on. That question drew its first champions deep into the Lawas highlands, where extraordinary heirloom rice was being grown in mineral-rich soil and clean mountain water — and yet the farmers behind it were paid a pittance, their craft slowly slipping toward extinction.

The mission that grew out of that valley was simple and stubborn: make heirloom farming genuinely rewarding, and more of it will survive. When Langit passed into our care, we made a decision that has guided us ever since — to change nothing about that mission, and to be relentless about everything that helps it grow. We are custodians of something that matters, and we intend to hand it on stronger than we found it.

What we believe

We believe good food begins at the farm gate, and that the value it creates should begin there too. This is not charity bolted onto a business; it is the business. Every ordinary thing we do — sourcing, curating, selling exceptional ingredients — is engineered to pour value back to the people who make it possible.

In practice, that means we buy directly from farmers at their doorstep and pay well above the local market rate. We shoulder the hard, expensive work of moving goods out of remote highland terrain, so that more of what you pay lands in the household that grew your food. And we keep every product traceable to its origin, because a farmer's name and a valley's reputation should ride along with the harvest — never vanish into an anonymous supply chain.

We also believe flavour and fairness were never opposites. The rice we carry is not premium because of a clever story; it is premium because it is genuinely, unforgettably good — nutty, fragrant, and distinct from one valley to the next. Taste it once, and the case for paying farmers properly makes itself.

What we do

What we do

Our work rests on three pillars, and together they form the ecosystem we invite you into.

01

Curation of products

We source and curate heirloom rice, grains, spices, oils and specialty goods from smallholder farmers across Sabah and Sarawak. Each product is chosen for quality and character, handled in small batches, and traced to the field it came from. This is how we help keep heritage seeds in the ground and traditional farming knowledge alive — by making sure there is real, lasting demand for what these varieties uniquely offer.

02

Tasting experiences

Food means more when you know where it comes from. Through paddy tours, tasting sessions, workshops and pop-ups, we reconnect urban Malaysians with the land and the people behind their meals. Guests travel into the highlands, work alongside farming families, and taste heirloom varieties side by side — leaving with a deeper appreciation for the origin of food, the land, and the people who produce it.

03

Impact-driven programmes

We design customised learning experiences and programmes for teams, schools and organisations that want their engagement to count. From leadership journeys that put people face to face with a real supply chain, to collaborations that channel resources straight back into rural communities, our programmes turn goodwill into something you can measure. Business, done with intent, can be a genuine force for rural good — and we help others put that idea to work.

Rooted in relationships

Everything we do is anchored in trust rather than transactions. We show up — at planting, at harvest, and through the long, quiet stretches in between — because trust is built over seasons, not signatures. When a farming family decides what to plant next year, we want that choice to feel easier because Langit is a partner who returns, pays fairly, and keeps its word even in a lean year.

That steadiness is the whole point. A buyer who pays well once and disappears changes nothing. A buyer who comes back, season after season, changes what a household dares to grow, whether the young stay on the land, and whether irreplaceable knowledge is passed on or lost forever. We measure ourselves less by volume and more by that quiet, compounding kind of change.

Carrying it forward

Langit is recognised as an accredited social enterprise — a mark that reflects impact built into the business model rather than added as an afterthought, and a public promise we invite you to hold us to. If you ever want to know where your rice came from and what the farmer was paid, that is precisely the question we exist to answer.

We are a small team with a long horizon and a borrowed word for a name. Langit means "the sky" — vast, shared, and above every valley we work in. The seeds our partner farmers plant were sown long before us and will keep being sown long after; our job is simply to make sure there is always a good reason to plant them. Thank you for being part of the journey — from Borneo's highland farms, to your table.
